Suspects Detained in Iraq; Afghan Citizens Turn in Weapons

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 2005 Soldiers in Iraq took eight people into custody Feb. 1, and Afghan citizens today continued to turn in weapons, military officials said.
Soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), detained four people in northern Iraq. Soldiers of the 2nd Brigade, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment detained four suspected terrorists and confiscated weapons and uniforms, officials said.
Afghan citizens turned in two weapons caches to coalition forces today in Paktia province. Policemen from the village of Kamaty turned in 31 82 mm mortars with fuses and seven mines. The village elder from Kamaty then turned in three rocket-propelled grenades with boosters, a day/night sight with carrying case, and an RPG backpack with a holder.
