FBI Agents Donate Money to Pentagon Memorial Fund

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3, 2003 – Three members of the FBI Washington Field Office Evidence Response Team at the Pentagon after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack returned today to present a $5,000 check to the Pentagon Memorial Fund.

"We had agents involved in evidence collection and victim recovery at the Pentagon, and after working an event like that, we decided to do something for the Pentagon family," said FBI Special Agent Tom O'Connor, who presented the check to Michael Sullivan, acting Pentagon renovation program manager. With O'Connor were Special Agents Chris Mayfield and Garrett McKenzie, who were also on the FBI response team.

"We raised $10,000 during a charity hockey game between the New York Fire Department and the FBI Agents Association," O'Connor noted. "We decided to donate $5,000 to the New York Fire Department Widows and Orphans Fund and $5,000 to the Pentagon Memorial Fund." McKenzie proposed and organized the hockey game, played on Aug. 24, 2002.

"It's really amazing, because of how much the FBI contributed to the recovery effort, that we should be contributing to you (rather than) you to us," Sullivan said, after thanking the agents. Besides the long hours you put in, (that) you went above and beyond to sponsor a hockey game in conjunction with the New York Fire Department is pretty commendable and impressive."

Through special congressional authorization, DoD can accept donations toward the Pentagon Memorial. To donate to the memorial project, checks can be made payable to "United States Treasury" and mailed to Washington Headquarters Services, Pentagon Memorial, Budget and Finance, Room 3B269, 1155 Defense Pentagon, Washington, DC 20301-1155.
