Five U.S. Troops Dead in Iraq Incidents

WASHINGTON, May 25, 2005 Five U.S. military personnel were killed in three separate incidents in Iraq over the last two days, military officials said.
Three Task Force Baghdad soldiers were killed when a car bomb exploded near their convoy May 24 in central Baghdad. After the blast, Iraqi police moved immediately to help secure the site, U.S. officials said.
A fourth task force soldier was shot in a drive by shooting 30 minutes later. The soldier had been manning an observation post. He later died in a combat support hospital.
Elsewhere in Iraq, a Marine assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), was killed May 23 during an indirect-fire attack on Camp Blue Diamond, in Ramadi, officials also reported May 24.
The names of the five deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No further details on the incidents were available.
