DoD Amends 1996 Armed Forces Sports Tournament Dates

WASHINGTON, March 12, 1996 DoD's Armed Forces Sports Committee modified its 1996 sports schedule, delaying the mens' and womens' basketball tournaments until April.
The mens' basketball tournament, originally slated for March 10-16 at Camp Lejeune, N.C., will now begin April 7. The women's
tournament, also slated for March, will now start April 4 at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tenn.
The sports committee also announced the Naval Construction Battalion Center at Port Hueneme, Calif., will host the 1996 armed forces track and field championships.
All other armed forces 1996 tournament sites and remain the same.
Athletes competing in armed forces events often qualify for international military competitions. The Conseil International du Sport Militaire hosts events annually, with three events slated this year in the United States.
The 1996 CISM men's and women's basketball championships will run from April 28 through May 12 at Fort Hood, Texas. Fort Huachuca, Ariz., site of the 1996 armed forces golf tournament Sept. 22-28, will also host the CISM golf tournament Oct. 1-6.
To qualify for armed forces competition, athletes must apply through local sports channels and qualify through service tryouts and tournaments. Requirements vary by service. For more information on armed forces competition, contact your local
