Commissaries End Organization Charge Sales
American Forces Press Service
FORT LEE, Va., Sept. 16, 1996 Defense Commissary Agency officials announced charge sales at stateside installations will end Oct. 1.
Charge sales -- used by military organizations and government agencies for bulk purchases -- will continue in overseas commissaries until the agency installs modern check-out equipment.
Under the current system, units order groceries at local commissaries, then sign purchase orders -- charge sales. Officials use these to eventually bill the organizations.
With the new procedure, units will pay by cash, check or Visa, Master Card or International Merchant Purchase Authorization Card. It reduces paperwork and directly bills organizations.
In fiscal 1995, DeCA charge sales amounted to more than$200 million.
