Cohen Names National Defense Panel

WASHINGTON, Feb. 11, 1997 Defense Secretary William S. Cohen named the members of the National Defense Panel Feb. 6.
Phil Odeen, president of BDM International, will chair the panel. The panel will submit reports on DoD's Quadrennial Defense Review and submit its own report on proposed changes to force structure through the year 2010 and beyond. The Quadrennial Defense Review is due to Congress May 15. The panel's independent assessment is due in December. Cohen chose members of the panel in consultation with members of Congress.
Other members of the panel are Richard Armitage, former assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs; retired Gen. Richard C. Hearney, former assistant commandant of the Marine Corps; retired Adm. David Jeremiah, former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Robert M. Kimmitt, managing director, Lehman Brothers; Andrew Krepinevich, director, Center for Srategic and Budgetary Assessments; retired Air Force Gen. James P. McCarthy, former deputy commander in chief,U.S. European Command; Janne Nolan, senior fellow, Brookings Institution Foreign Policy Studies Program; and retired Army Gen. Robert RisCassi, former commander, U.S. Forces, Korea.(From a DoD Release.)
