DoD Names Winners of Installation Excellence

WASHINGTON, April 20, 1998 – Defense Secretary William S. Cohen announced on April 14 the winners of the 1998 Commander in Chief's Award for Installation Excellence are: Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, N.C., Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Yokosuka, Japan, Spangdahlem Air Base, Spangdahlem, Germany, and, Defense Contract Management Command Long Island, Garden City, N.Y.

For 14 years, this award has recognized outstanding and innovative efforts in operating and maintaining U.S. military installations. DoD selected the 1998 winners based on their support of department missions.

Winners are chosen from each service and the Defense Logistics Agency. Representatives from the winning installations and each service will be on hand for the award ceremony May 1 at 2 p.m.

Deputy Defense Secretary John J. Hamre will host the award ceremony in the Pentagon Center Courtyard.
