NATO to Mark 50 Years at Washington Summit

WASHINGTON, May 6, 1998 The United States will host NATO's 50th anniversary summit meeting here next year.
The summit, scheduled for April 24- 25, 1999, will mark NATO's "extraordinary record of success over the past 50 years in protecting the United States and our European allies," according to a White House press release.
During the summit, NATO officials expect to welcome three new members, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
"Looking to the future, the summit will advance the common work of NATO allies and partners to build an undivided Europe that is peaceful, prosperous and democratic," according to the release.
