Clark Nominated for U.S. Southern Command

WASHINGTON, April 25, 1996 President Clinton nominated Army Lt. Gen. Wesley K. Clark for appointment to general and assignment as commander, U.S. Southern Command.
If the Senate confirms Clark, he will succeed retired Army Gen. Barry R. McCaffrey, who became head of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
Clark, 51, currently serves at the Pentagon as director for strategic plans and policy on the Joint Staff.
