American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, June 5, 1996 – The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds air demonstration squadron takes its act to Eastern Europe this summer as part of a seven-country tour June 12 through July 10.

The Thunderbirds, based at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., will perform for the first time in Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia during the 29-day European tour. The team opens its tour June 17 at Timisoara, Romania, and closes July 9 at Lajes Field, Azores.

The tour also includes two days at Chevres Air Base in Belgium (June 22 and 23) and a July 3 stop at Aviano Air Base, Italy. The team will also fly a third show in Belgium and one in Denmark.

Once the European tour ends, the Thunderbirds will resume their 1996 United States tour -- a tour that includes a fly-over at the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
