WASHINGTON, May 31, 2002 CNN anchor Paula Zahn signed a virtual 'Thank You Note' to America's service members this afternoon during a Pentagon visit.
"This is a tremendous initiative," the newswoman said after adding her name to the note featured on the DefendAmerica Web site, www.defendamerica.gov. "It must be very tough for the troops abroad to understand how proud all of us Americans are of their service to our country."

The Thank You Note, which went public May 1, has been an effort to let service members know about their fellow Americans' support. The note also commemorates May's National Military Appreciation Month, which featured numerous events expressing support for the men and women serving in the U.S. military.
Zahn said she has seen plenty of that support. "I can tell you from my daily work that I have never seen such a strong sense of patriotism, particularly in New York City, a city so scarred by Sept. 11.
"I couldn't be prouder to add my name, to become No. 45,582 of the well-wishers," Zahn said. "God Bless America."
The Thank You Note will be presented to the military during a special ceremony at the Pentagon sometime in June.
