WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2010 Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, encouraged all Americans to support military families in a recent public service announcement that aired on Lifetime Television following her appearance on “Army Wives” earlier this month.
“Every day our brave men and women in uniform make a selfless commitment to our nation,” she said. “Now we must make a commitment to them and to their families.”
Dr. Biden reiterated the challenge she and First Lady Michelle Obama have made to Americans on numerous occasions: support and engage military families.
“We all have a responsibility to do our part,” she said.
Dr. Biden also urged people to go to Serve.gov and share their stories about how they’re helping to support military families.
When you watch the PSA, you’ll see a series of pictures of Dr. Biden with servicemembers. I took several of them when I traveled with her to Iraq over Fourth of July weekend; I wrote about the experience in my July 6 blog .
While I was with Dr. Biden, I had no trouble finding opportunities for taking pictures. Dr. Biden never passed by servicemembers without expressing her gratitude for their service or taking the time to pose for a picture with them.
I always love to see our leaders coming forth to support military families, and I’m glad to see Dr. Biden’s ongoing efforts on their behalf.
