Soldier Killed in Iraq; DoD Identifies Previous Casualty

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31, 2006 – A soldier from the 1st Brigade, 34th Infantry Division, stationed at Logistical Support Area Anaconda, Iraq, was killed by an improvised explosive device while conducting a route security mission at about 12:05 p.m. yesterday, military officials reported.

The soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, the Defense Department released the identity of a Marine who was killed Aug. 29 supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Marine Cpl. Christopher T. Warndorf, 21, of Burlington, Ky., died while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
