Secretary Carter to Host Indian Minister of Defense Parrikar

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter will host Indian Minister of Defense Manohar Parrikar for a visit to Washington Dec. 9-10, focusing on progress the United States and India are making to continue to strengthen and deepen defense cooperation under the U.S.-India strategic partnership.

On Dec. 10, Secretary Carter will host an enhanced honor cordon to welcome Minister Parrikar to the Pentagon, at 9 a.m. ET, on the steps of the Pentagon River Entrance.  Following their bilateral meeting, they will conduct a joint press conference in the Pentagon Briefing Room (2E973), at 10:50 a.m. ET. Following the press event, both Secretary Carter and Minister Parrikar will travel to USS Eisenhower (CVN 69), to view flight operations while the ship is at sea.
Journalists without a Pentagon building pass covering the enhanced honor cordon will be picked up at the River Entrance only. Approximately 45 minutes prior to the start of the enhanced honor cordon, PFPA will set up a screening station at the base of the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge. Once the screening station is established, all members of the news media, including those with a Pentagon access card (PFAC), will undergo screening.  A representative from the Public Affairs office will also be present to verify press affiliation of those without a PFAC.  Once through screening, PFAC holders may continue up the bridge.  Journalists without a PFAC will be escorted in groups of up to three to and from the event, as normal.

Additionally, at 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the event, transit through the area surrounding the event will be closed to everyone, including both PFAC holders and DoD employees, until after the event has completed.  If you routinely enter and depart the Pentagon through the River Entrance, please plan accordingly.

Journalists without a Pentagon building pass only covering the press briefing will be picked up at the River Entrance Pedestrian Bridge only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call 703-697-5131 for escort to the briefing.  The briefing will be livestreamed at www.defense.gov/live.
