Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper met with German Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer today at the Pentagon to reaffirm the strategic defense relationship between the United States and Germany.
The leaders discussed mutual security concerns, including Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, China, and the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS.
They addressed a broad range of defense issues, including equitable burden-sharing and the importance of readiness, and agreed to continue to explore means to deepen cooperation between both countries. The secretary expressed appreciation for Germany's role as host to the largest U.S. force presence in Europe.
