HUMANITARIAN DEMINING ON THE INTERNET

The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict H. Allen Holmes and Fort Belvoir's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate have established a web site on the Internet for humanitarian demining.

The site pinpoints world problem areas; includes a mine database consisting of pictures, physical characteristics and specifications for over 675 mines; explores current R&D solutions; provides information on mine effects and emergency medical treatment; and accepts user feedback regarding the humanitarian demining R&D technologies program.

This initiative will be extended in the coming months to incorporate more data about DOD's expanded efforts in humanitarian demining R&D and operations. The website for humanitarian demining went on line, August 1, at http://www.deming.brtrc.com.

For more information: contact the humanitarian demining internet hotline at (703) 205-1530.
