            On Oct. 18, 2006, the White House Officials announced the 2006 Presidential Rank Award recipients. Included in the announcement were the names of 76 Department of Defense (DoD) Senior Executives. 

            Gordon England, deputy secretary of defense offered his heartfelt "congratulations" to the DoD award recipients.  England praised the award winners for their "outstanding results, successes, and enduring commitment to public service." 

            "These senior leaders are an example of the extraordinary talent of military and DoD civilian personnel who help the Department of Defense every day secure peace and freedom for both our citizens and those of other nations.  The caliber of these award winners has helped make the difference between organizational success and failure," England said. 

            Each year, the President recognizes and celebrates a small group of career senior executives with the President's Rank Award for exceptional long-term accomplishments. Recipients of this prestigious award are strong leaders, professionals, and scientists who achieve results and consistently demonstrate strength, integrity, and a relentless commitment to excellence in public service.

 

-The distinguished award is given for sustained extraordinary accomplishments and the recipients receive a lump-sum payment of 35 percent of their base pay. 

 

-The meritorious is awarded for sustained accomplishment and recipients receive 20 percent of base pay. 

 

  All recipients receive a framed certificate signed by the President.
