GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that
the President has nominated Lt. Gen. Jay M. Garner, United States
Army, for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general and
assignment as Assistant Vice Chief of Staff, United States Army,
Washington, D.C. Since September 1994, he has served as the
Commanding General, United States Army Space and Strategic
Defense Command, Arlington, Va.
Lt. Gen. Garner was born on April 15, 1938, in Arcadia, Fla.
