            Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

 

            Army Lt. Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli has been nominated for the appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as senior military assistant to the secretary of defense, Washington, DC. Chiarelli is currently serving as special assistant to commander, U. S. Central Command for the Development of Regional Military Capability.

 

            Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV has been nominated for the appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Caldwell is currently serving as deputy chief of staff for strategic effects, Multi-National Force-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom.
