SECRETARY PERRY RECOGNIZES WISCONSIN FIRM AS BEST IN NATION FOR EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF GUARD AND RESERVE
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry recognized a
Wisconsin-based transportation company for its outstanding
support as an employer of National Guard and Reserve members.
Schneider National, based in Green Bay, received the first
ever National "Employer Support Freedom Award" today in
ceremonies in the Pentagon Press Room. Four regional awards
were also given to the United Parcel Service, Central Florida
District, Orlando, Fla.; McDonnell-Douglas Corporation, St.
Louis, Mo.; Tektronix Inc., Wilsonville, Ore., and National
Life, an insurance company located in Montpelier, Vt.
The award is sponsored by the National Committee for
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (NCESGR), a Department
of Defense committee that is headquarters to 55 state-level
committees nationwide. The state committees are staffed solely

presenting the honor by Assistant Secretary of Defense for
Reserve Affairs, Deborah R. Lee.
ESGR committees across the nation submitted 26 employers for
the award. A national committee reviewed the nominations and
chose the five finalists, representing each of the United States'
five geographic regions. A grassroots committee of weekend
drilling National Guard and Reserve members reviewed the
finalists, and identified Schneider National as the most
