The Department of Defense announced today that 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, based in Fort Hood, Texas, will deploy in the summer of 2008 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The brigade consists of approximately 3500 personnel and will deploy as a replacement unit for a formation currently operating in Iraq. Its deployment will provide commanders in Iraq the flexibility to maintain the appropriate level of effort based on their assessment of the security situation on the ground.
Prior to its deployment, the brigade will be re-designated as 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.
The existing 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division is currently deployed in Iraq. That unit, based in Fort Bliss, Texas, will re-deploy in the coming months. After its return to home station, it will re-designate to become part of 1st Armored Division.
Unit deployments reflect the continued commitment of the United States to the security of the Iraqi people. The Department recognizes the continued sacrifices of these units and their family members.
DoD will continue to announce major unit deployments as units are identified and given deployment orders. For information on the units announced today or other units involved in this rotation, please contact Army Public Affairs at (703) 692-2000.
