Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Air Force Maj. Gen. Philip M. Breedlove has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commander, Third Air Force, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Breedlove is currently serving as vice director, strategic plans and policy, Joint Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Robert S. Harward Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as deputy commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. Harward is currently serving as deputy commanding general for operations, Joint Special Operations Command, U.S. Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
