Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Navy Vice Adm. James A. Winnefeld Jr., for reappointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as director, strategic plans and policy, J-5, Joint Staff; senior member, U.S. Delegation to the U.N. Military Staff Committee, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Winnefeld is currently serving as commander, 6th Fleet/commander, Striking and Support Forces NATO/deputy commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe/commander, Joint Headquarters, Lisbon/Joint Force Maritime Component commander Europe, Lisbon, Portugal.
Navy Rear Adm. Bruce W. Clingan for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as commander, 6th Fleet/commander, Striking and Support Forces NATO/deputy commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe/commander, Joint Headquarters Lisbon/Joint Force Maritime Component commander Europe, Lisbon, Portugal. Clingan is currently serving as director, Warfare Integration and Assessment Division, N8F, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
