GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that
the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Thomas N. Burnette Jr.,
U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and
assignment as deputy chief of staff for Operations and Plans,
U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Since July 1995, he has served as
the commanding general, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort
Drum, N.Y.
Burnette was born on Oct. 23, 1944, in Macon, Ga.
