General Officer Announcements

              Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations: 

 

Army Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley has been nominated for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Accessions Command, Fort Monroe, Va.  Freakley is currently serving as the commanding general, U.S. Army Accessions Command/deputy commanding general for initial military training, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.

 

Army Lt. Gen. Frank G. Helmick has been nominated for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, Fort Bragg, N.C.  Helmick is currently serving as the commander, Multi-National Security NATO Transition Command-Iraq/commander, NATO Training Mission-Iraq Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.

 

Army Maj. Gen. Mark P. Hertling has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as the commanding general, initial entry training, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.  Hertling is currently serving as the commanding general, 1st Armored Division/commanding general, Multi-National Division - North, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.

 

Air Force Maj. Gen. Christopher D. Miller has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy chief of staff, strategic plans and programs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.  Miller is currently serving as director, plans, policy and strategy, North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

 

Air Force Maj. Gen. William J. Rew has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as vice commander, Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va.  Rew is currently serving as director, operational planning, policy and strategy, deputy chief of staff, operations, plans and requirements, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
