Margaret R. Munson, director of the Defense Investigative Service, today announced the recipients of the 1997 James S. Cogswell Awards for Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement. The premier DoD industrial security awards were presented at the National Classification Management Society's Annual Training Seminar held in San Antonio, Texas.
The Cogswell Award symbolizes a joint government-industry commitment to sound security practices and awareness. More than 11,800 cleared facilities in the Defense portion of the National Industrial Security Program were considered, but only 50, or less than one-tenth of one percent, were chosen. Recipients displayed a total team approach to industrial security by facility management, the work force and the facility security officer.
This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Cogswell Award which is named in honor of Colonel James S. Cogswell, U.S. Air Force, the first chief of the Office of Industrial Security. The 1997 Cogswell Award recipients are:
