GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Lt. Gen. Eric K. Shinseki, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of general and assignment as commander, Allied Land Forces Central Europe and commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Since Aug. 1996, he has served as the deputy chief of staff for operations and plans, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C.
Shinseki was born on Nov. 28, 1942, in Lihue, Kauai.
