The Department of Defense now has an answer to complaints from some visitors to the Pentagon who say, "there's no place to eat." Its answer: the Pentagon Metro Cafe. Located at the top of the metro station escalator in the outer lobby of the building, the new Cafe is open to anyone visiting the world's largest office building under one roof.
Although the Pentagon has many cafeterias and snack bars for its 24,000 plus military and civilian workers, no food outlet existed for the 120,000 visitors who take the Pentagon tour each year. The opening of the Pentagon Metro Cafe on June 16, 1997 is in direct response to the comments from tourists to DoD's headquarters.
The new Cafe offers sandwiches, pizza, pastries, snacks, soft drinks and coffee, and is open from early morning to late afternoon, Monday through Friday, except holidays. The Cafe is operated under contract with ARAMARK Corp. of Philadelphia.
