Within the framework of the Defense Cooperation Agreement between Kuwait and the United States, members of U.S. Central Command's Army component and Kuwaiti armed forces will participate in Exercise Intrinsic Action 97-2 from June 24, 1997 through early September 1997.
This training is intended to improve readiness and interoperability between Kuwaiti and U.S. armed forces, and to enhance U.S. military force capabilities to quickly deploy to the region. The exercise will involve approximately 1,300 U.S. Army soldiers. The deployment will include a battalion task force, combat support units and combat service support units. The task force will deploy without equipment and will use prepositioned equipment in Kuwait.
Intrinsic Action 97-2 is also intended to further demonstrate the U.S. commitment to the security and stability of the Arabian Gulf region.
