GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Lieutenant General Charles E. Wilhelm, United States Marine Corps, for appointment to the grade of general with assignment as commander in chief, U.S. Southern Command, Miami, Fla. Wilhelm is currently serving as the commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Atlantic/commanding general, Fleet Marine Force Atlantic/commanding general, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Wilhelm was born on Aug. 26, 1941 in Edenton, N.C.
