General Officer Announcement

Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis to serve as commander, U.S. Central Command and for reappointment to the rank of general. Gen. Mattis is currently serving as commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.
