DOD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers for July 2010

                The Department of Defense announced today its recruiting and retention statistics for the active and reserve components for July 2010.

        Active Component.

  • Recruiting.  Three of the four active services met or exceeded their accession goals for July 2010.  The Marine Corps intentionally slowed accessions for July because it is exceeding its fiscal year-to-date recruiting goals.
    • Army - 6,975 accessions with a goal of 6,707; 104 percent
    • Navy - 2,990 accessions with a goal of 2,990; 100 percent
    • Marine Corps - 2,845 accessions with a goal of 2,847; 99 percent
    • Air Force - 1,920 accessions with a goal of 1,920; 100 percent
  • Retention.  Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force retention are at or above the fiscal year-to-date goals for the first 10 months of the fiscal year.

        Reserve Component.

  • Recruiting.  Three of the six reserve components exceeded their accession goals for July 2010.  The Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and the Marine Corps Reserve intentionally slowed accessions for July because they are exceeding their fiscal year-to-date recruiting goals.
    • Army National Guard - 4,459 accessions with a goal of 5,899; 76 percent
    • Army Reserve - 1,613 accessions with a goal of 1,708; 94 percent
    • Navy Reserve - 553 accessions with a goal of 553; 100 percent
    • Marine Corps Reserve - 807 accessions with a goal of 1,052; 77 percent
    • Air National Guard - 637 accessions with a goal of 507; 126 percent
    • Air Force Reserve - 787 accessions with a goal of 671; 117 percent
  • Attrition.  Losses in all reserve components are within acceptable limits.
