General Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John M. Paxton Jr. to serve as the commanding general, II Marine Expeditionary Force, and commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Africa, and for re-appointment to the rank of lieutenant general. Paxton is currently serving as the director for operations, J-3, Joint Staff in Washington, D.C.
