The secretary of Defense has announced that two B-1 bombers and two supporting KC-135 tankers from the 366th Composite Wing at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho will conduct a global power mission to Bahrain in late-September.
This deployment is a training deployment to demonstrate the global power projection capabilities of the B-1.
It is intended to ensure that our forces are prepared to respond to potential threats to U.S. or coalition interests.
The bombers will depart from the United States enroute to Bahrain.
While enroute, the bombers will over-fly Kuwait and conduct a simulated bombing run at Udari range.
They will then land in Bahrain where they will conduct additional training flights into both Kuwait and Bahrain.
Although not part of the air expeditionary force currently deployed to Bahrain, these aircraft are from the same home station and will be using the same security and support facilities while deployed.
