Flag Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Navy Vice Adm. Joseph D. Kernan for reappointment to the rank of vice admiral and assignment as deputy commander, U.S. Southern Command, Miami, Fla. Kernan is currently serving as senior military assistant to the secretary of defense, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
