Readout of Secretary Panetta’s Meeting with Greek Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopolous

            Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs George Little provided the following readout:

            “Today Secretary Panetta met with Greek Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopolous at the Pentagon to discuss a variety of mutual defense interests including the upcoming NATO Summit, the missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and the impact of Greece’s financial crisis on its defense posture.

            “Secretary Panetta confirmed the strong U.S.-Greek bilateral defense relationship, and thanked Greece for its ongoing commitment and support to the U.S. Naval Support Activity Souda Bay in Crete.

            “He also thanked Greece for supporting international efforts on Libya, Iran and Syria.”
