                The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. 

                Capt. James D. Nehl, 37, of Gardiner, Ore., died Nov. 9, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, from small arms fire while on patrol during combat operations.  He was assigned to 2^nd Battalion, 16^th Infantry Regiment, 4^th Brigade Combat Team, 1^st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
