General Officer Assignments

            The chief of staff, Army announced today the following assignments: 

            Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer Sr., deputy commanding general/chief of staff, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, to commanding general, U.S. Army Japan/commanding general, I Corps (Forward), Japan.

            Maj. Gen. Gary H. Cheek, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Central/Third U.S. Army, Kuwait, to deputy commanding general for support/chief of staff, Installation Management Command, San Antonio, Texas. 

            Maj. Gen. Gordon B. Davis Jr., deputy commandant, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College/deputy commanding general, leader, development and education, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to deputy chief of staff, operations and intelligence, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Belgium.

            Maj. Gen. Michael T. Harrison Sr., commanding general, U.S. Army Japan/commanding general, I Corps (Forward), Japan, to deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Central/Third U.S. Army, Kuwait. 

            Maj. Gen. Richard C. Longo, director, Task Force 2010, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, to deputy commanding general/chief of staff, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. 

            Maj. Gen. John Uberti, deputy commanding general for support/chief of staff, Installation Management Command, San Antonio, Texas, to chief of staff, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. 

            Brig. Gen. Michael A. Bills, deputy chief of staff, G-3, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, to deputy commanding general, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, Colo. 

            Brig. Gen. Thomas S. James Jr., deputy commanding general (maneuver), 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, to deputy commandant, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College/deputy commanding general, leader, development and education, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. 

            Brig. Gen. James B. Linder, deputy director for operations, U.S. Africa Command, Germany, to commander, Special Operations Command Africa, Germany. 

            Brig. Gen. Walter E. Piatt, deputy commanding general (support), 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, N.Y., to commanding general, Joint Multinational Training Command, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. 

            Brig. Gen. Darsie D. Rogers Jr., deputy commanding general (support), 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Carson, Colo., to deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C. 

            Brig. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, deputy commanding general (support), 2nd Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Republic of Korea, to deputy chief of staff, G-3, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. 

                Brig. Gen. Robert P. Walters Jr., deputy director, Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, Arlington, Va., to director, intelligence and information (J-2), North American Aerospace Defense Command/U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. 

            Col. James E. Kraft Jr., who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, deputy commander, Joint Task Force-Sword, U.S. Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C., to deputy commander, Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. 

            Col. Joseph M. Martin, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, commander, U.S. Army Operational Test Command, Fort Hood, Texas, to deputy commander, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. 

            Col. Erik C. Peterson, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, deputy commander, U.S. Army Cadet Command, Fort Knox, Ky., to deputy commander, 2nd Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Republic of Korea.
