General Officer Assignments

            The chief of staff, Army announced the following assignments: 

            Brig. Gen. Nadja Y. West, who has been selected for the rank of major general, deputy chief of staff for support, U.S. Army Medical Command, Falls Church, Va., to Joint Staff surgeon, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. 

            Brig. Gen. Norvell V. Coots, surgeon general, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan/medical advisor, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, to assistant surgeon general for force projection, Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. 

            Brig. Gen. Guy T. Cosentino, deputy director for Politico-Military Affairs (Middle East), J-5, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C., to commandant, National War College, National Defense University, Washington, D.C. 

            Brig. Gen. Thomas A. Horlander, special assistant to the director, Office of Business Transformation, Office of the Under Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C., to director, business operations, Office of Business Transformation, Office of the Under Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C. 

            Brig. Gen. Henry L. Huntley, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Ky., to director, Human Resources Policy Directorate, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, U.S. Army, Arlington, Va. 

            Brig. Gen. John L. Poppe, assistant surgeon general for force projection, Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C., to deputy chief of staff for support, U.S. Army Medical Command, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. 

            Brig. Gen. Barrye L. Price, director, Human Resources Policy Directorate, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, U.S. Army, Arlington, Va., to deputy chief of staff, G-1, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, N.C. 

            Brig. Gen. Steven A. Shapiro, deputy commanding general, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, to commander, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Defense Logistics Agency, Philadelphia, Pa. 

            Brig. Gen. Sean P. Swindell, assistant commander for Special Operations Forces, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training Mission-Afghanistan/Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, to deputy commanding general, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.  He was previously announced as deputy commanding general, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas. 

            Brig. Gen. Michael C. Wehr, commanding general, U.S. Army Engineer Division, South Pacific, San Francisco, Calif., to director, Joint Engineering Directorate, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and commander, Transatlantic Division (Forward), Afghanistan.

            Col. Christopher S. Ballard, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, director, Army Cyber Operations Integration Center/G-3, Second Army/U.S. Army Cyber Command, Fort Belvoir, Va., to deputy chief of staff, intelligence, Headquarters International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. 

            Col. Edward M. Daly, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, commandant, U.S. Army Ordnance School, U.S. Army Sustainment Center of Excellence, Fort Lee, Va., to deputy commander, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. 

            Col. Joseph P. Harrington, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, executive assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C., to deputy commander, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.  He was previously announced as deputy commander, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. 

            Col. Barbara R. Holcomb, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, commander, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, to command surgeon, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
