FLAG OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Vice Adm. Charles S. Abbot, U.S. Navy, for appointment to the grade of admiral and assignment as deputy commander in chief, U.S. European Command in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany.
Abbot is currently serving as commander 6th Fleet and commander Naval Striking and Support Forces, Southern Europe in Gaeta, Italy.
Abbot was born Jan. 19, 1945 in Pensacola, Fla.
