SECRETARY COHEN RESPONDS TO SASC BRAC VOTE
In response to the Senate Armed Services Committee vote on the request for BRAC authorization, Secretary of Defense William Cohen said today, "Even though we knew this would be a difficult vote, the outcome in the Senate Armed Services Committee was nevertheless extremely disappointing.
Not providing the Department with the ability to reduce billions of dollars in wasteful spending on unneeded bases will deprive the men and women in uniform of the resources essential to fulfilling their mission."
