FLAG OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the president has nominated Rear Adm. Richard A. Nelson, senior health care executive, U.S. Navy, for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and Surgeon General, Washington, D.C.
Nelson is currently serving as commander Naval Medical Center, San Diego, Calif.
Nelson was born April 4, 1941 in Perkins, Okla.
