FLAG OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Vice Adm. James O. Ellis Jr., U.S. Navy, for appointment to the grade of admiral and assignment as commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe and commander-in-chief, Allied Forces, Southern Europe in Naples, Italy. Ellis is currently serving as deputy chief of naval operations for plans, policy and operations N3/N5, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Ellis was born July 20, 1947, in Spartanburg, S.C.
