REAR ADM. JAMES W. EASTWOOD APPOINTED TO RESERVE FORCES POLICY BOARD
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen has announced the designation of Rear Adm. James W. Eastwood as the Naval Reserve member of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, effective Aug. 1, 1998.
The 24-member board was created by Congress in 1952. Acting through the assistant secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, the board serves as the principal policy advisor to the secretary of Defense on reserve component matters.
Members include the assistant secretary responsible for reserve affairs from each of the military departments, and active and reserve component general and flag officers representing all Services, including the Coast Guard.
Born in Morristown, N.J., Eastwood's military career spans more than 30 years in the active Navy and the Naval Reserve. Eastwood has served in his current position since September 1997, where he is the deputy commander, Second Fleet, U.S. Navy, Norfolk, Va. and readiness commander, Region Four, U.S. Naval Reserve, Fort Dix, N.J.
His military experience includes a variety of staff and operations positions, and significant command positions, with considerable surface ship experience.
