REAR ADM. J. TIMOTHY RIKER APPOINTED TO RESERVE FORCES POLICY BOARD
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen has announced the designation of Rear Adm. J. Timothy Riker as a member of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, effective July 1, 1998.
The 24-member board was created by Congress in 1952. Acting through the assistant secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, the board serves as the principal policy advisor to the secretary of Defense on military reserve force matters.
Members include the assistant secretary responsible for Reserve Affairs from each of the military departments, and active and reserve component general and flag officers representing all Services, including the Coast Guard.
Riker is currently serving as the senior reserve officer, Coast Guard Atlantic Area, U.S Coast Guard, Portsmouth, Va.
His recent military experience includes service as chief of defense operations division, Office of Operations and Law Enforcement, U.S Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C. and harbor defense commander in Cap Haitian, for Operation Uphold Democracy, the peacekeeping mission in Haiti. He also served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Southwest Asia.
