BRIG. GEN. WALTER R. ERNST II APPOINTED TO RESERVE FORCES POLICY BOARD
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen has announced the designation of Brig. Gen. Walter R. Ernst II as the Air National Guard member of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, effective Sept. 1, 1998.
The 24-member board was created by Congress in 1952.
Acting through the assistant secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, the board serves as the principal policy advisor to the secretary of Defense on military reserve force matters.
Members include the assistant secretary responsible for reserve affairs from each of the military departments, and active and reserve component general and flag officers representing all Services, including the Coast Guard.
Ernst is currently serving as the assistant for mobilization and reserve affairs to the commander in chief, U.S. Special Operations Command, Tampa, Fla.
His recent military experience includes service as commander, 111th Fighter Wing, Willow Grove, Pa. and commander, 193rd Special Operations Wing, Middletown, Pa., Pennsylvania Air National Guard.
He is a command pilot with more than 10,000 flying hours.
He was born Aug. 4, 1942 in Camp Hill, Pa.
