GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Michael A. Canavan, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as the chief of staff, U.S. European Command, Germany. Canavan is currently serving as the commanding general, Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Canavan was born on Dec. 5, 1946, in Quincy, Mass.
