King Hussein was a soldier for peace. He fought for stability in the Middle East and the security and welfare of his people. Jordan, the region and the world benefited from his leadership.
He provided wise counsel to President Clinton and to American cabinet members. Because Jordan is the third largest recipient of U.S. military aid, I worked closely with King Hussein and his government. During my last meeting with him in Amman, he gave me an extensive briefing on Jordan's security challenges. Later at dinner with Mrs. Cohen and me, he and Queen Noor described their work for the people of Jordan. It is obvious why he was so loved and admired by his people.
King Hussein was a strong, humane and visionary leader. The world will miss him.
