Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base, Md., on Monday, April 17, 2000, for counterpart visits to Egypt, Jordan and Morocco.
In Cairo, on Tuesday, April 18, Shelton will meet with his counterpart, Lt. Gen. Magdy Anwar Hatata, chief of Staff, and Defense Minister Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, for discussions of issues of mutual interest. Shelton will meet with President Hosni Mubarak and afterwards participate in a brief media availability at the Presidential Palace.
On Wednesday, April 19, Shelton will travel to Amman, Jordan, where he will meet with his Jordanian counterpart, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Malkawi, and have an audience with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan at the Rhagadan Palace.
On Thursday, April 20, Shelton will travel to Rabat, Morocco, to meet with military officials and His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco to discuss regional security issues.
Shelton will return to Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 21.
