The third annual Department of Defense Electronic Commerce Day will be held June 5, 2000, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, in Washington, D.C. The event will be co-sponsored by the Joint Electronic Commerce Program Office (JECPO) and the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association (GEIA).

The theme for EC Day 2000 is "DoD eBusiness: A Catalyst for Change in a Digital Environment." As a sanctioned activity of DoD Acquisition and Logistics Reform Week, the scheduled events will include distinguished speakers, panel discussions, exhibits and information booths from industry representatives and military services, and the presentation of DoD electronic commerce awards. Electronic Commerce Day is open to DoD employees, defense industry contractors, and others interested in the Department's electronic commerce initiatives.

Registration details, on-line registration, and more detailed information about the event are available from the JECPO web site at http://www.acq.osd.mil/jecpo (not available).

The JECPO, which was formed in January 1998, has a charter to accelerate the use of electronic commerce within the Department. It brings together experts from DoD's business and technology arenas to build strategic partnerships with industry in electronic commerce. The EC Day will showcase these strategic partnerships.

The JECPO is organized under both the Defense Logistics Agency and Defense Information Systems Agency and is provided policy and oversight from the DoD chief information officer. DLA's role is to accelerate the coordination of full business cycle requirements; accelerate coordination of cross functional integration; identify best business practices; provide functional industry outreach; and support integrated digital environment initiatives by integrating electronic commerce. DISA's role is to lead the technical architecture; coordinate standards; lead development of technical solutions; develop enterprise licensing approaches; conduct tests; carry out technical cross functional integration; and systems engineering.
